  • John Reid - Lead Researcher

    Iwi: Ngāti Pikiao, Tainui, Tauiwi

    John is a specialist in sustainability transitions. He is a Senior Research Fellow in Kā Waimaero, the Ngāi Tahu Research Centre, at the University of Canterbury. Spanning over 20 years John has worked with iwi to plan sustainable development pathways in agriculture, forestry, and fishing.
    John is based in Ōtautahi/Christchurch.

  • Matt Rout - Researcher

    Matt’s specialises in indigenous socio-economic development and environmental sustainability, focusing on creating theoretical frameworks grounded in context and designed to deliver practical progress. This involves adapting an array of concepts and insights from different disciplines to develop tailored, workable solutions to the unique issues faced by indigenous peoples in the (post) colonial world.
    Matt is based in Ōtautahi/Christchurch.

  • Desna Whaanga-Schollum - Communications Specialist

    Iwi: Rongomaiwahine, Pahauwera, Ngāti Kahungunu

    Desna is a communications specialist, whose work is connected through the exploration and articulation of cultural identity. Projects see her collaborating with a wide variety of communities, business, and design professionals, artists and academics to achieve results which effect change in people, practice, and place.
    Desna is based in Poukawa – Hawke’s Bay.

  • Jay Whitehead - Researcher

    Iwi: Ōraka Aparima, Ngāi Tahu, Kāti Māmoe

    Jay is an economist working on multiple science, consultancy, and business projects to progress a vision of intergenerational wellbeing based on enhancing multiple values. He’s worked within local government, universities, and private enterprises.
    Jay is based in Ōtautahi/Christchurch.

  • Corey Ruha - Implementation Lead

    Iwi: Te Arawa, Tainui and Mātaatua waka

    Corey is an emerging researcher, with a background in engineering, focused on the intersections of whānau, hapū and marae with environmental sciences, most recently in the contexts of freshwater and geothermal.
    Corey is based in Rotorua.

  • Jason Mika - Implementation Lead

    Iwi: Tūhoe, Ngāti Awa, Whakatōhea, Ngāti Kahungunu

    He is an associate professor at Te Raupapa Waikato Management School and Te Kotahi Research Institute, University of Waikato. Jason’s research, teaching, writing, and practice centres on Indigenous business philosophy in multiple sites, sectors, and scales, including Indigenous trade, tourism, agribusiness, and the marine economy.
    Jason is based in Kirikiriroa/Hamilton.

  • Kevan Cote - Technician

    Kevan is a data scientist, with a background in mechanical engineering, and now uses machine learning to answer ecological questions in Aotearoa New Zealand.
    He grew up in Canada and is now based in Kirikiriroa/Hamilton.

  • Matthew Wilson - Researcher

    Matthew is a surface water hydrologist and geographical information scientist, at the University of Canterbury, working in areas including flood risk and the impacts of climate change.
    Matthew is based in Ōtautahi/Christchurch.

  • Jon Manhire - Researcher

    Jons' expertise lies in business and strategic planning for the primary production industry - both agriculture and horticulture - for producers, businesses and sectors.

  • Robin Mitchell - Researcher

    Robin is an international biodiversity management expert and restoration ecologist with over 25 years’ experience. Robin specialises in advising corporates, governments and the finance sector on nature-climate strategy and reporting; he enjoys learning to be effective in different cultural and organisational settings and solving ‘wicked’ problems.
    Robin in based in Otago.

    Pavel is a Professor in Operations Management and Sustainability at University of Canterbury. Pavel’s research interests focus on the role of standards, self-regulation and certification in operations and supply chain management.

  • Katherine Dixon - Researcher

    Katherine, as a researcher, combines her skills in governance, ecology and social science to deliver the best possible outcomes for business, nature and communities. Katherine has worked in the sustainability sector for over 20 years building links between industry, international NGOs, academia and government.
